Our #wcw is grandmother to all, Emilia Kamvisi of the Greek island of Lesbos. Emilia, an 85 year old grandmother who is herself the daughter of refugees, said the scenes of refugees trying to reach the shore reminded her of life under Nazi occupation:
"We saw people crying in the boats, people to leave their homes, people sleeping in the streets," she recalled.
Emilia was nominated, along with two others, to represent the humanitarian work the Greek people have provided for refugees and migrants during and after their journeys across the Mediterranean.
Grandmas are the best.
