“My home is a beautiful country. It is made out of bamboo. I see many things. I see the child rise and shine. I see the village and I see trees and a beautiful view. I smell the beautiful flower. I also smell the fruit. Yum! Yum!"
This was Lah-Say’s response when we asked her to tell us about her home. Lah-Say, a Bhutanese mother who spent 10 years in a refugee camp in Thailand, lives in the US in a community made up of a large number of Bhutanese refugees dating back to the 1990s. Lah-Say misses her home and her people, but she is doing what she can to make her new community stronger.
