Hakima Bishar Sheikh
Born in a place called Wajir in the Northeastern part of Kenya, I am passionate about helping orphans and people affected by conflict and am glad I got the opportunity to work as a volunteer in an orphanage called New Life Trust Home in Nairobi. I studied International Relations and Diplomacy as my diploma with a double major in Political Science and Armed Conflict and Peace Studies.
My biggest achievement this year was to get the opportunity to work with HumanRefuge(e). Coming from a community that has experienced almost constant conflict since the collapse of its central government in 1991, and having half a million refugees in Dadaab refugee camp, and others who got the chance to flee to European countries, working with HumanRefuge(e) will give a platform for my career and an amazing opportunity to help not only refugees from my community but all refugees fleeing their country because of conflict, drought, and famine. It feels overwhelming to work with people who know the world needs them and who are willing to make a change. The world needs more people like you-- you make the less fortunate feel special and wanted.
